BBC One has finally revealed when Sir David Attenborough’s eagerly anticipated new documentary Seven Worlds, One Planet will start airing in the UK.
At the series’ London premiere on Monday (October 7), the broadcaster announced that the show will make its small screen debut on Sunday, October 27.
The series will be broadcast over seven weeks, and marks the first time BBC Studios’ prestigious Natural History Unit has explored all of the planet’s continents in a single series.
Using new technology and boundary-defining drone techniques, the team behind the series has sought to capture “unique perspectives, new species, and animal behaviour never before seen”, as well as looking at how humankind has impacted the planet’s sustainability.
The series promises viewers that they will witness everything from the world’s most bizarre predator in the Iranian desert to polar bears using a never before seen hunting strategy to catch beluga whales in North America’s Hudson Bay.
“I’m thrilled that we’re about to share this incredible series with the world, which has been four years in the making by more than 1500 dedicated people on every continent,” an excited Attenborough told audiences at today’s premiere event.
“Seven Worlds, One Planet celebrates biodiversity and the variety of life on our planet whilst also shining a spotlight on its challenges.”
Later, BBC Director General Tony Hall added: “Seven Worlds, One Planet embodies the qualities that have become synonymous with the work of our Natural History Unit in Bristol.
“The team there are true pioneers – they have an insatiable curiosity to discover new things. And that sense of adventure is why we’ve already committed to a pipeline of natural history landmarks.
“Since Planet Earth II we’ve been doing one a year – and we’ll continue to do that running up to 2023. We’ve never had that scale of ambition before and no other broadcaster in the world comes close to that kind of commitment to the natural world.”
Seven Worlds, One Planet will premiere on BBC One on Sunday, October 27.
