A City solicitor must pay £35,000 in fines for engaging in sexual activity with a junior female colleague, a tribunal has ruled amid calls for the case to be reported to the police.
Ryan Beckwith, a partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, one of London’s elite international law firms, failed to act with integrity and had brought the profession into disrepute, the tribunal found.
Despite agreeing that Mr Beckwith, 41, did not initiate sexual activity with the complainant, who is in her twenties and was referred to as Person A, the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) fined him £35,000 and ordered him to pay £200,000 in costs.
However, the tribunal did not strike off or suspend him.
